Why Ethiopia?

In March 2010 we attended a General Information meeting at Hope Family Services (our homestudy agency) and learned about different adoption options: domestic infant, MN waiting child (aka foster adoption), international adoption.

Choosing an option is a very personal decision for any family adopting. After a lot of thought we decided international adoption is the option for us. The next step was to chose a country. I would love to be able to say that Ethiopia was always our first choice because... I can say that now, but not then.

As we were going though requirements of various countries we had to knock some off the list right away.
Some of the reasons we ruled out countries were age, length of our marriage (Haiti requires 10 years of marriage), and various health reasons.

While we were researching other countries we were talked about Ethiopia. Now that we have made that decision, and learned about the availablility of Ethiopian groups in the Twin Cities area, began to make connections with other families, we are excited to incorporate the Ethiopian culture into our lives!
